Spicy Paloma Cocktail

It’s a zesty, vibrant cocktail that’s perfect for spice lovers!

Equipment

  • Cocktail serving glass (Highball recommended—I used a 10-ounce glass)
  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • Bar spoon
  • Citrus juicer or reamer (for fresh grapefruit and lime)
  • Knife and cutting board (for slicing grapefruit and jalapeños

Ingredients
  

For Garnish:

  • Salt for rimming the glass
  • 1 slice fresh grapefruit
  • 5 slices fresh jalapeño

Using Fresh Grapefruit Juice:

  • 2 ounces tequila blanco
  • 1 ounce lime juice
  • ¼ ounce grapefruit juice I used ruby red grapefruit—it’s sweeter!
  • ¾ ounce jalapeño syrup
  • 2 ounces seltzer

Using Soda or Pre-made Mixer:

  • 2 ounces tequila blanco
  • 3 ounces Grapefruit Jalapeño mixer or plain Grapefruit Soda (I love Root Elixirs Grapefruit Jalapeño soda)
  • ¾ ounce lime juice optional—if using plain grapefruit soda

Instructions
 

Prepare Your Glass:

  • Rim your Highball glass with salt. To do this, rub a grapefruit wedge around the edge, then dip it into a plate of salt. Fill the glass with ice.

Mix the Base:

  • In a shaker, combine tequila, lime juice, grapefruit juice, and jalapeño syrup. Add ice and shake well for about 15 seconds. If you don’t have a shaker, stir vigorously in a jar with a lid.

Strain & Pour:

  • Strain the mixture into your prepared glass over fresh ice.

Top It Off:

  • Add seltzer to give the drink a bubbly finish. Stir gently with a bar spoon to mix everything together.

Garnish & Serve:

  • Place a slice of grapefruit and a few jalapeño slices on top for a pop of color and extra spice.
