Equipment

  • Rocks glass or old-fashioned glass
  • Small plate for rim salt
  • Bar spoon or cocktail shaker

Ingredients

For the Cocktail:

  • 2 ounces butterscotch schnapps like DeKuyper’s Buttershots
  • 1 ounce coffee liqueur Kahlúa is a classic choice
  • 1 ounce vanilla vodka
  • 1 ounce heavy cream or half-and-half for lighter version
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg
  • Ice cubes

For the Rim:

  • Butterscotch sauce ice cream topping works perfectly
  • Sea salt

Instructions

  • Prepare the Glass: Pour butterscotch sauce onto a small plate. Dip the rim of your glass into it, then dip into a plate of sea salt. Set aside.
  • Fill with Ice: Add ice cubes to your prepared glass.
  • Mix the Base: Pour in the butterscotch schnapps, coffee liqueur, and vanilla vodka.
  • Add the Cream: Slowly pour the heavy cream over the back of a spoon so it gently floats on top. This gives you that beautiful layered effect.
  • Finish: Sprinkle with a pinch of nutmeg. Stir gently before sipping if you like it blended.

Notes

This recipe makes one serving, but you can easily scale it up for a party. Just keep the ratios the same and mix in a pitcher.
