Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 black tea bag or 1 teaspoon loose-leaf black tea
  • Orange peel from ½ orange reserve a little for garnish
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk or preferred milk
  • Orange peel twist or orange slice for garnish

Instructions

Step 1: Simmer the Flavor Base

  • Add the water, orange peel, and cinnamon stick to a small saucepan.
  • Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce to a simmer for about 5 minutes. This allows the orange oils and cinnamon to infuse into the water.
  • Tip: Don’t boil too vigorously or the orange peel may become slightly bitter.

Step 2: Brew the Tea

  • Turn off the heat.
  • Add the tea bag (or loose tea) and steep for 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Remove the tea bag or strain the loose tea.

Step 3: Sweeten

  • Stir in the brown sugar until dissolved.
  • Add the vanilla extract and stir again.
  • Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.

Step 4: Add the Milk

  • Pour in the milk.
  • Heat gently over medium-low heat until steaming.
  • Avoid boiling after adding milk because it can change the texture and reduce the fresh tea flavor.

Step 5: Serve

  • Pour into your favorite mug.
  • Garnish with:
  • Orange peel twist
  • Thin orange slice
  • Small cinnamon stick
  • Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • Use fresh oranges for the brightest flavor.
  • Avoid grating the white pith.
  • Adjust sweetness according to your taste.
  • Dairy-free milk works well.
  • Do not over-steep the tea.
  • Add extra cinnamon for a stronger spice flavor.
  • A splash of heavy cream makes it extra rich.
  • Best enjoyed fresh while warm.
