Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk any percentage or milk alternative
  • 1.5 ounces 42.5 grams good-quality white chocolate, chopped
  • 1 chai tea bag
  • Whipped cream optional
  • Ground cinnamon optional

Instructions

Step 1: Warm the Milk

  • Pour 1 cup of milk into a small saucepan. Warm it over medium-low heat until it is hot and steaming. Do not bring it to a full boil.

Step 2: Steep the Chai

  • Add one chai tea bag to the hot milk. Let it steep for about 4–5 minutes, or according to the strength of your tea. Gently move the tea bag around once or twice to encourage the spices to infuse.

Step 3: Remove the Tea Bag

  • Take the chai tea bag out of the saucepan and discard it. Taste the milk if desired. If you prefer a stronger chai flavor, you can steep the tea slightly longer before removing it.

Step 4: Add the White Chocolate

  • Reduce the heat to low. Add the 1.5 ounces of chopped white chocolate and stir continuously. Continue stirring until the chocolate melts completely and the drink becomes smooth and creamy.

Step 5: Pour and Garnish

  • Pour the hot chocolate into a mug. Top with whipped cream if using, then add a small sprinkle of ground cinnamon. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • Whole milk gives the richest texture, but other milks can work.
  • Oat milk is a particularly creamy dairy-free option.
  • Use finely chopped white chocolate rather than large chunks.
  • Don’t boil the milk.
  • Keep the heat low once the white chocolate is added.
  • Whipped cream and cinnamon are optional.
  • The sweetness can vary between white chocolate brands.
  • For a stronger chai flavor, use a chai tea bag with a bold spice profile.
  • For a less sweet drink, choose a white chocolate with a balanced flavor and avoid additional sugar.
  • Make the drink immediately before serving for the best texture.
