Ingredients

  • 8 cups blue Hawaiian punch
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 1 cup vodka
  • ½ cup white rum or coconut rum
  • Maraschino cherries for garnish
  • ½ gallon vanilla ice cream optional

Instructions

Chill the ingredients.

  • I like to refrigerate the blue Hawaiian punch, pineapple juice, vodka, and rum before mixing. Starting with cold ingredients means the punch is ready to serve without needing a lot of ice, which can dilute the flavor.

Combine the punch and pineapple juice.

  • Pour the blue Hawaiian punch and pineapple juice into a large punch bowl or beverage dispenser. Stir gently until combined.

Add the vodka and rum.

  • Pour in the vodka and white or coconut rum. Give everything another gentle stir. I avoid vigorous stirring because it creates unnecessary foam.

Taste before serving.

  • This is a useful step, especially because different brands of Hawaiian punch and pineapple juice vary in sweetness. If you find the mixture too sweet, a small splash of chilled water or lemon-lime soda can lighten it.

Add vanilla ice cream, if using.

  • For the creamy version, place scoops of vanilla ice cream directly into the punch shortly before serving. The ice cream will float at first and then slowly melt into the drink.

Garnish and serve.

  • Add maraschino cherries to the punch bowl or individual glasses. Serve immediately while the punch is cold and the ice cream is still visible.

Notes

This is an alcoholic party punch as written. For a non-alcoholic version, simply leave out the vodka and rum and replace them with additional pineapple juice or a lemon-lime soda.
