Ingredients

For the Mojitos

  • 2 limes cut into wedges
  • 1 cup fresh mint leaves
  • 8 ounces white rum
  • 1 six-pack of blood orange soda
  • 1 cup pure unsweetened cranberry juice
  • Ginger simple syrup to taste
  • 2 cups ice cubes
  • 1 cup fresh cranberries

For the Ginger Simple Syrup

  • 1 ginger root peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

For the Garnish

  • Lime wedges
  • Brown sugar for the rim
  • Fresh mint
  • Fresh cranberries
  • Slivers of candied ginger

Instructions

  • Prepare the glasses. Run a lime wedge around the rim of each glass, then dip the rims into brown sugar if desired.
  • Add the lime and mint. Divide the lime wedges and mint leaves between four glasses. Gently muddle them to release their flavor and aroma.
  • Add the cranberry juice. Pour about 1/4 cup of unsweetened cranberry juice into each glass.
  • Add the ginger syrup. Start with a small amount of ginger simple syrup and adjust according to how sweet and spicy you want the drink.
  • Add the rum. Pour 2 ounces of white rum into each glass. Skip this step for a mocktail.
  • Add ice. Fill the glasses with ice cubes.
  • Top with blood orange soda. Slowly pour in the blood orange soda, leaving a little room at the top for stirring and garnishes.
  • Stir gently. Give each drink a gentle stir so the cranberry juice, rum, citrus, mint, and soda come together.
  • Garnish and serve. Add fresh cranberries, mint, a lime wedge, and a few slivers of candied ginger.

Notes

  • Use pure, unsweetened cranberry juice if you want more control over the sweetness.
  • Chill the blood orange soda and cranberry juice before assembling the drinks.
  • Taste the first drink before making the remaining three so you can adjust the ginger syrup.
  • For the prettiest presentation, add the cranberries just before serving.
  • Fresh mint makes a noticeable difference in this recipe.
  • Candied ginger is optional but adds a lovely finishing touch.
  • For a non-alcoholic version, omit the rum completely.
